Wow…has it actually been that long since I last posted on here?  Yes…it looks that way.

I’m of the opinion that a good successful site keeps it’s content fresh and updated.  I’ve done a pretty lousy job of it so far.  I’m going to have to make a commitment to maintain it.  I have no excuse really, but to be honest, I haven’t been too happy with the site’s limited features.  I have been wanting to create a true downloads section and load it up with all of the Cast The Fire content plus new downloads.  I wanted to create an awesome podcast directory and make the site work in a more friendly and fluid way.

I simply haven’t put the effort into it for one reason or another.  I have the ideas all written up and I know what it will take.  It’s a matter of worrying whether I will break something by doing that, or the possibility of completely replacing the entire site and then having to import the data from the existing site to the new one.  I will have to simply try it though.  The fact is, that I can back up the whole site and if it breaks, I can restore it.

Seeing as the site hasn’t had a whole lot of use lately anyway,..I believe it’s going to be renovated soon with potential "under construction" signs in places (yes, I know, that’s a web dev "no-no").  I will hopefully put it all together in a quick fashion though.

Hey kiddos, it’s me again, your friendly DJ Sixty-Six.

I’m here to tell you how you can find remixes of your favorite songs today. If they exist of course.

First of all, you should be armed with standard naming convention knowledge. If you’re going to find what you’re looking for, you should know how songs are named, especially remixes. So here’s a tip:

a) Example: JHT3 - Whole Dose (Reborn remix)
b) The Artist name is first, then a dash “-”, and then the Track name, then in parenthesis “( )” the Remixer/Remix name.
c) Sometimes you might see the word “remix”, and sometimes just “mix”, and sometimes another word involving mix like “megamix” or a different word like “version”.
d) You sometimes won’t see the Remixer’s artist name, but instead just a mix name like “megaton xplosion mix”.
e) You might see something called “feat” or “ft” for short, meaning FEATURING. This usually means another artist or vocalist collaborated with the main artist or producer. Example: Genesys - Breakdown Chaos feat JHT3 (Original Mix).
f) You might see “Original Mix”. That generally means that it’s the main version of the track, unless sometimes used for the first remix of a non techno track.

Now you want to know where to look for your remixes. First of all, remember that Christian techno isn’t as commercial as other techno yet. A lot of it is in the stores that sell mp3s, but a lot isn’t too. You might be able to find some remixes on Beatport or iTunes, and other ones you may only be able to find in indie stores like CD-Baby and Sno-Cap. Don’t be discouraged.

Try googling what you’re after to see what kind of results you can find. Try googling like some of these examples:

1) Misty Edwards - Beautiful remix
2) Sixty-Six - Like No Other mix
3) Michael W. Smith trance

These should produce some fairly relevant results that ought to give you a pretty good start on finding decent remixes.

What you might keep in mind is that some results might be forum topics, and would lead you to a link to a web store or something. Sometimes you might come across erroneous topics that have truly uninformed people trying to make the claim that Christian techno doesn’t exist, and couldn’t possibly work. These people are completely wrong, and they should see what is happening on TechnoChristian and the other sites we’ve partnered with, such as GodsDJs.com and TastyFresh.com.

If you still can’t find it, post what you want in the forums, or ask somebody on GodsDJs or Tastyfresh, or send me a contact. I’ll try and help you out. Good luck finding what you’re looking for!

I got a friend request on myspace from a guy called ombowstring. I have no idea what that means. Anyway, he asked me to check out his web site and exchange links on our sites. This is what I’m going to do… write about it.

www.ombowstring.com

Now this doesn’t really fit into the usual “techno” type of genre generally, since most of what I heard had no synths. However one track I heard was somewhat ambient and did use synths.

My take on his music is that it’s mainly sampled and looped rock type music mostly. As I said before, there was one of the sample tracks that was more like ambient, but it was pretty dissonant at first and kinda creepy, but being called “Holy Holy Holy”, I guess maybe that kinda works, since I guess there’s supposed to be some kind of “fear” associated with God’s presence or something.

Like his web site, it seems like there’s no method to the madness. If there was, I missed it. I wonder if there was any music theory behind it, because I wasn’t sure where it was going. I definitely think the ambient stuff has a little bit of merit though. If the guy works on that stuff a bit more, he’ll have something interesting.

I always like to encourage anybody that’s trying to grow in their music abilities and get into the music business, so I believe ombowstring can make it. Let’s try and show some love for what he’s trying to do and check it out. What you think?

Chris Harrington, DJ/Producer

Sir Harrington, why do some of us call you that?
Hahaha that’s the first I have ever heard of that so I’m not sure. Sounds a bit too formal for me though!

So you’re English but live in B.C. Canada, what brought you over here?
Well it’s a long story but basically when I was younger my Dad was offered two Jobs, one in the States and one in Canada. He checked both of them out and felt that God was leading him to Canada so we moved just outside of Vancouver in Canada and I have been living here ever since.

So what do you do when you’re not DJing?
Usually I’m out with my Girlfriend and hanging out with friends. If I’m not doing that I’m playing PS3 or Wii. I love video games haha

I just heard right from the horse’s mouth that CNET’s Music Download.com sister site Last.fm is taking over Download.com’s Music section entirely and along with this change comes some great benefits for indie and signed artists on Last.fm. One of these benefits is royalties paid to the artist when their music is streamed through the site!

At long last! A benefit that has gone missing for years since Download.com bought and destroyed the spirit of mp3.com! They completely removed the old mp3.com site when they bought it, making so many indie artists to look elsewhere for streaming profits. So far I haven’t discovered much of anything comparable to the original mp3.com’s royalty program, until now. I’m going to go get signed up for my own SIGNED music this week! I can do that since my contract allows me to make money where the label doesn’t ;).

So if you’re looking to make a little cash and you have some decent tunes, think about signing up as an artist on Last.fm. If it’s anything like the old mp3.com, there could be quite a bit of profit potential for us! It’s exciting indeed, maybe the small-time musician’s tide is finally turning again.

Maybe TechnoChristian.com should have a similar service to Last.fm for finding similar songs/artists but that are techno and christian? Or maybe we could offer links to known christian techno artists on Last.fm…maybe a full directory of them? What you think? Let’s hear it in the comments - or in our handy forums.

Okay, now that the content is actually relevant and up to date here at TechnoChristian; I’d like to ask for your help by casting your vote in this quick and simple poll.  Often times web site owners and software developers ask "what can I add" way too much, and end up with way too much junk and not enough quality.  Therefore, I’m asking what I can remove.

So what’s your perspective?  What would you remove from TechnoChristian…what’s not worth having?

You can add a comment if you’d like to suggest a new item for the site.

Thanks a lot in advance!

What would you remove from the site?

Now finally I’ve got the content on the site all updated.  I removed many things that were broken and no longer relevant.  I also added the banner at the top for the Christian EDM Alliance.  I even switched some things around on the side-bar and re-wrote the About page and the "about" tab at the top of the site.

I am still trying to understand why some articles I post here are not showing up correctly with the timestamp and other info, but I’ll be digging into that and hopefully will squash that little bug soon.

The new sections previously mentioned - the Downloads and Charts are likely to me showing up in beta form within the next couple of weeks.  Actually I’m thinking I’ll combine Podcasts with the Downloads, and might not do the Charts, but who knows.  Be keeping an eye out, and please give your feedback in the comments or forums.

Thanks so much for bearing with us as we make some great transitions!

Well, if any one did not know yet, the much beloved Cast The Fire site has been closed down. dj404 aka Christopher Carl was running it and having too hard of a time seeing how it was worth keeping up with so few regular listeners to the streaming radio.

On a related note, those of you who were familiar with the prior incarnation of CTF known as OneLifeRadio, it too was shut down and then pointed to Cast The Fire. That was when CTF was still alive and well. So OneLifeRadio/Cast The Fire R.I.P.

We do know however that when something ends it makes room for something new. Since then Aloft Radio has been birthed in the UK!
