I got a friend request on myspace from a guy called ombowstring. I have no idea what that means. Anyway, he asked me to check out his web site and exchange links on our sites. This is what I’m going to do… write about it.

Now this doesn’t really fit into the usual “techno” type of genre generally, since most of what I heard had no synths. However one track I heard was somewhat ambient and did use synths.

My take on his music is that it’s mainly sampled and looped rock type music mostly. As I said before, there was one of the sample tracks that was more like ambient, but it was pretty dissonant at first and kinda creepy, but being called “Holy Holy Holy”, I guess maybe that kinda works, since I guess there’s supposed to be some kind of “fear” associated with God’s presence or something.

Like his web site, it seems like there’s no method to the madness. If there was, I missed it. I wonder if there was any music theory behind it, because I wasn’t sure where it was going. I definitely think the ambient stuff has a little bit of merit though. If the guy works on that stuff a bit more, he’ll have something interesting.

I always like to encourage anybody that’s trying to grow in their music abilities and get into the music business, so I believe ombowstring can make it. Let’s try and show some love for what he’s trying to do and check it out. What you think?
